The first day of expedition. More than 150 cyclists began the journey to challenge mind, body and soul. The opening ceremony was officiated by UiTM Kuala Pilah’s Campus Director Assoc. Prof. Zalauddin Haji Sulaiman the contingent was released at around 7.30am. Prior to that, officers from Royal Malaysian Police(Traffic), Negeri Sembilan branch. Cyclists were reminded to maintain good discipline, remain in formation and uphold safety aspects at all times.

The Chief of Expedition took the chance to remind all participants on the importance to behave according to ACT’s principles, to be friendly to the surrounding community and learn as much as possible from the nature. Cyclists were also reminded to appreciate the almighty god’s creations.

Escorted by traffic police we started our journey. We passed through many villages, small towns, and plantation estates. Made few stops for rest, food, and to allow all to appreciate the environment. The most memorable one was as contingent reaches Hutan Lipur Ledang, right after everybody to bit the very last bite of lunch; the rain started to pour, and as we continue the journey it was such a fresh breeze, pumping up the contingent’s spirit.

We reached Dataran Segamat late evening, near the Maghrib time. In respect of official mourning of the state following the death of Almarhum Sultan Johor the closing ceremony was cut short and made simple. The contingent later depart for accommodation in 2 local hotels.

The second day of journey began at early hours, challenging the first item of ACT’s Athelete Vow – 1 – Seorang atlit harus berdisiplin. The car park area of Hotel Pine, Segamat witnessed over 150 cyclists sang their heart out for the national anthem; Negaraku, followed by Asmaul-Husna, and Athelete’s Vow. In his speech, Chief of expedition reminded cyclists on the importance of the item 1. Without discipline, none of the other 6 items can be performed, and this will jeopardize the pure objective of ACT to build a generation with good values.

The contingent left Segamat, entering a long straight road crossing Felda settlement of Keratong. The destination; Bandar Muazzam Shah road was a little hilly as some point, however all cyclist seemed to be used to them all, thanks for the challenge of the first day!

One of the important stop was at a ‘warung’ at Cenderawasih, Ulu Keratong. Here we were hosted by Mr. Jumari, 47 and his family. He, whom had been running the shop for the past 17 years was totally delighted and honored to accept the contingent. This was shown on his kindness to assist any cyclist at any of their need, including the use of toilet! The first time he arrived in Malaysia was in 1981, where he became plantation worker. Now he is running the shop together with his beloved wife and few workers. His son is currently pursuing studies in Diploma of Computer Science, with deep interest in plantation and farming.

We arrived in Bandar Muadzam Shah at around lunch time, with a warm welcoming gesture of ‘kompang´ and a never ending smile from leaders of the local community. Among those were present were the’Penghulu’ of Mukim Kratong, Mr. En. Shamsul Kamal Hj. Ahmad, the JKK of Muadzam Shah - Hj. Murad dan members of the JKK, Chairman of Council of Villages Hj Azif Basri & Leaders of Villages, as well as Residen Counselor Asrama Harmoni, UNITEN - Mdm. Nor Azariah bt Abidin.

In his welcoming speech Mr Shamsul Kamal, besides welcoming and expressing his warm gratitude to all, he took a little time to share a very unique fact of the people of Pahang. According to him, people in Pahang is well known for being open and receptive towards various cultures, even willing to learn in order to adapt to others’ culture/tradition. On the same note he informed that there was a bigger reception plan for the contingent, but due to the Sultan’s order for the whole state to join mourning in event of the death of Almarhum Sultan Johore, which happens to be his in laws.

The reception ceremony ended with ACT’s trademark event – tree planting. This time, three Payung Indonesia tree were planted in the yard of Asrama Harmoni. Later, all cyclists dismissed for accomdation and rest, marking the end of the second part of the journey.

It seemed that our cyclists felt they didn’t have enough ride for the day, many decided to have a tour around the Bandar Muadzam Shah town. Indeed the town looks very quiet, but it was actually pretty nice town with nice people to be with and to talk to. It gives you facilities you can find somewhere else, in the same time gives you the ambiance of a calm and peaceful surroundings, which is hard to find elsewhere.

The very last day of expedition witnessed the Mr. Ahmad Sakrano, Dean of Business, Management, and Accounting School, UNITEN to join the releasing ceremony. In his speech he congratulated ACT for organizing such a meaningful program. He would want to see more collaboration of ACT and UNITEN in the future, while wishing good luck and safe journey for the contingent.

Chief of Expedition in his speech thanked UNITEN for hosting ACT, and apologize in advance should there be any of the rooms left dirty or in inappropriate manner. To the contingent he strongly reminded all cyclists must take care of their safety as the incoming route will witness a lot if heavy and fast cars. For each cyclist; the main challenge is the battle against each self, the mindset and the intention throughout the program must be maintained clear. Do not make this journey as our last journey, because there will be a lot more to come, and there’s no excuse but to always be ready to face them all. This very journey is dedicated to this very beloved country, nothing else but that.

Journey was a little relax today, no killing hills, no fast driven lorries around. The trip took the contingent to enjoy the beautiful scene of Malay villages – a long stretch of road crossing near to total of 10 villages!

5km from Pekan town, the contingent stopped for the last time. It was Kg. Pulau Keladi, a village filled with Cambodian community. The team stopped for Zohor prayer together with the villagers, and took some time to mingle and mix with the local community. Among the best crowd around were the elderly and the school kids. It was just amazing to see the joy in their faces and be touched by their openness, loving welcoming gesture, and most importantly – the smiles in their faces!

The contingent arrived at Pekan Waterfront, the end point for this stage at around quarter past two,k where the lunch was ready to be served. This was followed by the closing ceremony. Among present was Pekan’s Deputy District Officer, Mr. Ridhwan b Abdullah Sani, Representatives from Youth and Sports Department Pekan Branch, and Representatives from Department of Information.

In the closing remarks, Mr. Ridhwan b Abdullah Sani welcomed the contingent and expressed his gratitude for ACT for choosing Pekan as one of the important point in this tour. He was impressed with the efforts taken by all participants and would like to see more activities form ACT in the district. He stressed out the importance for each self to be open to new things, and always work best to reach out, understand culture, and discover the quality of each community. He whom was from Johore felt a little awkward when first posted to Pekan, but after a while he began to love the society and now he felt very glad to be posted there. In the same speech he welcomed all participants to experience the royal town of Pahang’ local delicacies such as Murtabak Makasar and Puding Raja, as well to spend some time to visit the Sultan’s palace. This is such a good lesson for all ACT members in line with the tour’s motto ‘Membangun 1 Malaysia yang Tercinta’.

Chief of Expedition Mr. Arma Rijal in his speech expressed his big appreciation to all parties that has made this 1st stage of Jelajah Malaysia a success, with special gesture to the Royal Malaysian Police (Traffic Branch) for accompanying the contingent throughout the 3-days journey. He explained the reason why ACT decided to choose bicycle was because ACT as medium for its huge potential in promoting healthy lifestyle among Malaysians. Besides, it is also the best way for everybody to truly experience the real ambiance of each districts visited which is hoped to nurture a generation that with huge love towards their country, their king, and their very own district of origin. With the instilled love it is hoped that this generation will contribute towards nation building in macro and micro level. To have all that come into reality, it is an utmost important factor to have a generation of healthy minds and body. With cycling ACT want Malaysians to really know everything about Malaysia, just like the back of their hands. Each member of community must reach out, experience and mingle with the locals in order to build common understanding, avoid confusion, together everybody work as one. With cycling too, ACT hopes to pull professionals to rural areas and outskirts and be part of the engine to bring change towards the betterment of all. In other note, ACT would also like to draw everybody’s attention to participate in protecting the environment in concern of global warming. That’s why in each tour ACT incorporated tree planting as part of its agenda, to promote efforts towards managing global climate for the good of mother earth.

The closing ceremony concluded with ACT’s tradition of tree planting continues. The Pekan District Office contributed in total of three Golden Chain trees, where all of them were planted at the courtyard of Pekan Waterfront. All VIPs were honored to join the tree planting ceremony symbolically shows their support towads ACT memayungi bumi.
