The Arrival

As in our previous expedition most of participants arrived prior Friday prayer. Luckily for us, the management of Putra Brasmana Hotel (with the capacity of 175 rooms) has allocated enough rooms for all participants and committee members. Official registration started at 1100hrs. Route survey by marshall and media team starts at 1145hrs.

At around 1600hrs participants gathered for briefing by the Chief of Expedition. Participants gathered in pre-arranged groups and get to know each other. Among important issues stressed out by Chief of Expedition were road safety, togetherness, as well as reminding participants on mission and vision of the expedition.

The Dinner

The dinner with Chief Minister of Perlis at Ocean Glow, Hotel Putra Brasmana kicked off at 2030hrs with the arrival of Honorable Y.A.B Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohd Isa B. Sabu. Other VIPs includes Y.B Tuan Abdul Jamil B. Saad (EXCO of Youth and Sports), Mr. Jamsari (Political Secretary of Chief Minister), Mr. Halim B. Jalib (Chairman of Homestay dan Inap Desa Kg. Sg. Ujong), and Pn. Siti Hajar Bt, Othman (Chairman, JKKK Tambun Tulang).

Mr. Ahmad Ruzizan Maphilindo Md Isa in his speech introduced ACT to the honorable Chief Minister. He later shared that in this stage of expedition a total of 145 cyclist and 81 committee members will be involved. He also referred the tagline of the expedition ‘Membangun 1Malaysia yang Tercinta’ to the current trend of youth moving out from own hometown to big cities, which has caused limited source of human capital in many small states like Perlis. By understanding the true potential of the local it is hoped that young forces can stay and develop their respective areas. This method has been practiced successfully in our neighbor country Singapore and it is good if we can follow this trend.

Honorable Chief Minister in his speech expressed his great surprise and respect to ACT for being able to motivate its members with no smoking approach. He who also didn’t smoke totally agreed to this approach. He also thanked ACT for choosing Perlis as the starting point to the event, and admire the team spirit among ACT members, which he believe will be important in order to reach the mission to develop this beloved country of Malaysia.

The dinner closed at 2200hrs after the exchange of memento between ACT and Chief Minster and other parties. A group photo was taken to cherish the moment.

Day: Saturday

Date: 17^th July 2010

Route: Kuala Perlis, Perlis – Merbok, Kedah.

Officiating Ceremony

Breakfast stared as early as 0500hrs. After Subuh prayer all participants were up and ready at the hotel yard. Honorable Chief Minister of Perlis, arrived sharp at 0700hrs as tentative.

The program started with the singing of national anthem ‘Negaraku’, followed by Asma-ul-Husna and Athelete’s Vow. Chief of Expedition reminded participants to always stay safe, alert and to respect all the traffic rules.

Meanwhile in his speech, the Chief Minister of Perlis, Y.A.B Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohd Isa B. Sabu shared that he was touched by singing of ‘Negaraku’ and ‘Athelete’s’ Vow’. He hopes that all participants will be able to really understand and practice the values contained in the both. Particularly touching few elements in the vow, he want everybody to realize that once an item become a vow, it is our duty to carry the weight of the vow and make it happen. He bid good luck to all and officiate he event with ‘Bismillahirrahmanirrahim’.

The Journey

Day 1 of the event witnessed a total of 4 pit stops:

Pit Stop 1- Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Janggus, Kedah.

The team stopped for a little refreshment. A small number of standard 6 students were around for their UPSR extra class.

Pit Stop 2- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sungai Limau, Kedah.

The team stopped by here for a small community engagement ceremony. Present on behalf of the school were Principal Tn. Haji Zamri, Mr. Fauzi Saad( Penolong Kanan Petang cum Chariman of Teachers Club), and Ms. Zainab (Guru Kanan Kemanusiaan).

Mr. Fauzi Saad in his speech besides expressing his respect to ACT members for non-smoking effort explained that the school used to be very active on co-curriculum but due to shortage of manpower it is now lacking on ‘movers’ of these programs. He hoped that similar activity can be conducted with ACT to steer the start of more similar activities in the school.

Chief of Expedition later detailed the rationale behind no smoking approach by ACT in his speech. According to him it is important to avoid critical illness from its route. Smoking has been proven as cause to many of these illnesess, as well as a well known ‘golden bridge’ towards drug addiction. That is why ACT feels that it is the most right move to curb smoking issue among its members to become a living evidence of good and healthy lifestyle. It was also announced that ACT will run a donation campaign among its’ members to be contributed for the building of school’s new praying hall.

To mark the event, exchange of memento took off between the ACT and the school. The event concluded with planting of 2 mango trees ceremony at the school yard. The team left at 1240pm.

Masjid Jame’ Badlishah, Pekan Yan, Yan, Kedah.

We stopped for Zohor prayer with the locals here. Since the day was very hot we took a little time to cool down. Many didn’t realize that there was a small river behind the parking space, small one with crystal clear and very refreshing water. Writer managed to taste the joy of this river and thank Almighty Allah for His givings.

Kampung Hilir, Mukim Merbok, Kedah

The last pit stop of the day. We had to go through some hilly areas. One of our lady riders had mechanical problem but later continued her ride using a spare bike.

At the village we were welcomed with a very big reception ceremony. There were kompang, silat, nasheed, and local food demonstration and lots of good food prepared by the villagers. The people in the village were very united and cooperative towards one another making the event went so smoothly.

Representing local community were Hj. Ismail B Md Isa, JKKKP Kg. Hilir, Hj. Abd Razak, Penghulu Mukim Merbok, En. Anuar b Ahmad, Assistant Chief of PEMUDA UMNO Bahagian Merbok, and Tuan Hj. Abd Seman b Hassan, Imam Kg. Hilir. It was learnt from Hj.Ismail that this home to 380 people has successfully preserve good neighborhood values among its members. This village was crowned ‘Desa Cemerlang’ and ‘Anugerah Keceriaan’ for the year of 2009.

Penghulu Mukim Merbok Haji Abd Razak welcomes this kind of activitiy because it eliminates any personal boundaries and it brings people together. Mr. Anuar was proud to have Kg. Hilir which he described as the right example towards social unity.

Chief of Expedition pointed out the common goal found in the lyrics of one of the nasheed performed by the locals. ACT’s mission to promote unity and developing the nation somehow was expressed in the song showing that we are all seeking for the common thing, and we do it by our own way. It is hoped that ACT can bridge all these efforts and together we can reach for the better.

The event continued with exchange of mementos, planting of 2 ‘Payung Indonesia’ tree ceremony, and group photo. Participants later served with local dishes before head out to Damai Park Resort for accommodation.

Date: 18^th July 2010

Route: Merbok, Kedah – Sg. Jawi, Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang.

Chief Police of Merbok asked a favor

The ride started off with usual ACT protocol. The singing of ‘Negaraku’ followed by Asma-ul-Husna, and Athelete vow somehow has triggered the interest of Mr. SM V.Nynasekaran, the Chief Police of Merbok. In his speech he congratulated all participants for their high level of discipline of punctuality and unity. To add, he understands ACT’s mission and vision and fully in support of ACT’s Athlete Vow and requested that ‘Rukun Negara’ to also be read after the national anthem. As he closes his speech he seeks for ACT’s goodwill to instill awareness on danger of drug abuse in every community visited by ACT. The ride started at 0645hrs.

The Journey

Day 2 of journey went through smoothly with no unfortunate event. Discipline was good, and spirit was high! Total pit stop was 5 (including final pit stop) with community engagement activity carried out at 3 of them. Overall, today’s ride was really rich with new knowledge and extremely warm welcome by the locals.

Pit Stop 1 - Dewan Awam Permatang Saga, Pusat Penempatan Banjir, JKKK Pinang Tunggal, Pulau Pinang

Muda River is the natural border line of the state of Kedah and Pulau Pinang. That morning it found out of sudden, a huge number of Giant riders rode across it. It shocks all of us to find such an unexpected welcome by Giant Malaysia Team with the set up of mini booth and complementary Giant water bottle for all participants!

Chief of Expedition took this chance to give an introductory about ACT to all that were present, including the Chairman of JKKK Pinang Tunggal Mr. Mohd Akhir B. Che’ Mat and Mr. Azahari B. Zainal, representative of Seberang Perai Utara District Officer. He said that the birth of ACT is a symbolic to show our love to the country. It is impossible to show love towards something we didn’t know about so ACT feels that it is important for us to really know our country in order to instill strong love to her. It is hoped that with this effort such mission can be achieved.

Mr. Mohd AKhir took the stage and proudly shared the was proud to inform that JKKK Pinang Tunggal was crowned as the bet JKKK in Seberang Perai Utara for the year of 2009. The contingent spent some time to visit an in-progress flood control management project nearby with short question and answer session. To mark ACT’s presence, 1 Khaya Senegalensis planted in front of the hall and the contingent later continued the journey.

Pit Stop 2 - Surau Simpang 3, Tasik Gelugor, Pulau Pinang

The contingent stopped by for short toilet rest, and the continued the ride.

Pit Stop 3 - Kampung Mengkuang Titi, Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang

The contingent later spent around 2 hours at here. We were surprised to have Datin Seri Wan Azizah bt. Wan Ismail receiving us. Among other VIPs were Dato' Hj. Abdul Halim B Hussain, Speaker DUN Pulau Pinang, En. Farid b. Arsyad, Council member of MPSP, En.Alias b Che' Mat, Setiausaha JKKK Mengkuang and Ustaz Saifudin Sharir. Mr Ahmad Ruzizan Maphilindo Md Isa in his speech expressed his admiration to strong teamwork shown by JKKK members. He believe that this is a very good value that ACT has learnt along the way through the expedition.

Mr. Farid b Arsyad felt that ACT’s effort to ensure 100% smoking free members is a noble thing to do. He is his speech hope that ACT could form its chapter for the young people in the village to join, as a method to instill good values. Dato’ Hj. Abdul Halim B. Hussain who is the Speaker for DUN Penang said that only by doing something together great things can be achieved. He hoped to see mass spread of sense of love to country among the community, be it NGOs, corporate bodies and individuals together for the good of the country.

Later, 2 demonstrations on recycling and environmental preservation performed. The first was on developing enzyme water from waste material. This enzyme water can later be used to make soap, clean the drainage system and many more. The second demo was on developing ‘mud-balls’ which is used to clean the river. This is a Japan-originated program proven successful track record. However in Japan itself this method is no more used because it really needs detail and thorough execution which not many organizations can handle. Penang is currently known as ‘Mud-Ball City’ by the world for its determination towards the program.

To mark the support towards environment preservation, the VIPs together with ACT members performed the mud-ball throwing into the river nearby. This was later followed by planting 2 ‘Sakura Malaysia’ trees and lunch. The journey continued at 1420hrs after the delivery of token of appreciation from ACT to Dato’ Hj. Abdul Halim and Mr. Farid b. Arsyad.

Pit Stop 4 - SMK Valdor, Sungai Bakap, Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang

It was a very hot day. For safety and to avoid dehydration we decided to stop by here for toilet rest and small refreshment.

Pit Stop 5 (Final) - Kompleks Rakan Muda Sg. Jawi, Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang

This is one of the most known Rakan Muda complex in the country. It was featured in the news and some talk shows for its facilities and ‘liveliness’ with the establishment of many programs. ACT is honored to be given chance to end the second day here. Among presence to accept the contingent were:

Mr. Shafiq shared some impressive local information about Sg. Jawi. This area though looked ‘calm and quiet’ is actually economically booming. He expressed his proud to see a huge group of people promoting healthy lifestyle and spirit to love the country. While in Chief of Expedition speech, Mr. Ahmad Ruzizan Maphilindo Md Isa thanked the host for accepting ACT. He also took the chance to explain about ACT and Jelajah 1 Malaysia. Here, 2 ‘Merawan Siput Jantan’ trees were planted by the VIPs and ACT members.

The second day ended with a lot of joy and satisfaction. Male participants stay in the complex’s hostel while female participants and management team stays in the nearby hotel.

Date: 19^th July 2010

Route: Sg. Jawi, Pulau Pinang – Kuala Kangsar,Perak.

The Departure

All participants were ready to ride as early as 0630hrs. Presence to release the contingent were Mr.Saad and Ms. Raihan bt. Mamat. Mr. Saad wished the contingent good luck and opened and open offer to ACT to collaborate with his team for in future events. Meanwhile in Chief of Expedition’s speech he stressed on the discipline, team spirit and safety to ensure smooth running of the program. After the reading of ‘Asma-ul-Husna’ and Athlete’s Vow the journey begins at 0715hrs.

The Journey

Pit Stop 1 – SMK Dato’ Abu Bakar Al-Baqir

A long line of students waited for us upon our arrival. Interestingly this school has its own hostel, though it is a normal school. According to the school’s principal Tuan Hj Azmi b. Mat, the school was named after a religious teacher which has put so much effort to build education system in there. Among others presence were

Chief of Expedition took the chance to engage with the students on importance to have love to country via living healthily. He also addressed smoking issue as a very important disease hurting younger generations today. It does not only bad for the physical health of the students but it also badly impacted their pocket for unnecessary money spent.

The ceremony later invited Mr. Mohd Muzakir b. Ali, a cyclist from ACT for motivational talk. He stressed the importance to have the right mind upon coming to school and the magic of realizing each individuals are great on their own way. His ‘Saya hebat, anda hebat, semua hebat!’ (I am great, you are great, we are great) blows the crowd, and until today plays in the mind and heart of those presence.

The exchange of token of appreciation between Chief of Expedition and The Principal marked the end of ceremony.

The journey continued not long later, but this time we are accompanied by 5 cyclist from ‘Kelab Basikal Klasik Kampung Bongol Pasir’.

Pit Stop 2 – Masjid Al-‘Aala, Kampung Ayer Puteri

The contingent had a short break and toilet rest.

Pit Stop 3 – SMK Dato’ Wan Ahmad Rasdi, Changkat Jering

The school’s landscape made it look like ‘a school in the garden’. The students were so friendly, giving extra room for ACT members to build relationship and deliver ACT’s message. Right after the arrival participants were took to the canteen for lunch. The welcoming ceremony began right after that. Among presence were

Mr. Kamaruddin described ACT’s effort as a good platform to deliver positive message to younger generations. Since many of the students ride bicycle to school, he urged for the establishment of ACT chapter at school level too. In the same event, the PTA has delivered its donation and appreciation of RM 300 to Kelab Silat, a laptop and printer to School’s examination council and T-shirts to various parties. ACT also presented its token of appreciation to the school and the Youth and Sports Council.

‘Raja Pokok Nangka’ and ‘Raja Pokok Duku’ was chosen to be planted as symbolic of ACT’s presence and the awareness on global warming threat. The contingent pursued the journey at 1400hrs after the photography session.

Pit Stop 4 – PETRONAS Padang Rengas

The journey across Bukit Berapit was a tough one. With such a super hot weather, the contingent stopped for rest as precaution to avoid fatigue and dehydration.

Pit Stop 5 (Final) – Arena Square, Kuala Kangsar

Finally, the end of the 3^rd phase. The peaceful ambiance of Kuala Kangsar town sent all of us in such a relax mode. Presence here were Dato' Wan Khairi B Muhammad, ADUN Bukit Chandan and Dato' Ghazali B Jalal, Pegawai Daerah Kuala Kangsar.

Chief of Expedition took this chance to introduce ACT and Jelajah 1 Malaysia effort to the VIPs and in the same time shared some of valuable experiences gained by ACT members along journey. Dato’ Wan Khairy praised this effort and hope to see more Malaysians to show their love to the country, regardless of any method. The event later ended by planting 3 trees at the nearby lake and photography session.

It was such and interesting and successful journey for ACT, again. Hopefully the last edition of Jelajah 1 Malaysia will be another beautiful experience for all. See you later!

Jelajah Berbasikal 1Malaysia - East Coast Tour.

Alhamdulillah, we have just completed the second stage of our self-organized Jelajah Berbasikal 1Malaysia. Overall, everything went smoothly well, only 1 incident recorded, plus rooms for improvement that we need to take note for the next stage of Northern Tour in the coming July.

Date : 23^rd April 2010

Route : Arrival at Jerteh Town

Generally almost all participants arrived in Jerteh Town, Terengganu prior Friday Prayer. Participants were broken down into 4 different hotels which are 1 Utama, Suri, Mar, and Madzlin. It shocked some of us to see shops were closed as early as 12.00pm in respect to the prayer.

At 4.00 pm participants started to gather at Dewan Majlis Daerah Besut, Jerteh. Most of participants rode on motor powered vehicles. Interestingly, ACT Perlis decided to ride from their hotel to the venue. It was later learned that the team travelled by bus thus they didn’t have other means of transportation to the hall but to ride.All participants later had their final bike-check and parked their bicycles here until the event to start tomorrow.

Participants later were broken into their riding groups, which normally said in ACT culture as ‘Kelompok’. Later the Chief of Expedition delivered his remarks, welcoming the participants. More importantly, he reminded all participants on ACT’s vision and mission, discipline, and safety throughout the expedition. At around 6pm participants started to move back to their hotels. For ACT Perlis team that ridden to the venue earlier, ACT Johor gave them a lift on their chartered bus, and this continued throughout the event until day 2. What a beautiful spirit shown among ACT members! Bravo!

At their respective hotels, it was free and easy for all participants. Some took a good rest, but quite many took the chance to walk around the town. For note, Jerteh is the centre of transit for drivers travelling across the East coast route. It is also the transit point for tourists to Pulau Perhentian. A family of French tourist was spotted buying ‘Kuih Belimbing’- a local dish textured and tasted like cream puff at the Jerteh Souq – a night spot for food in the town. Writer also discovered a local Malay Pau seller that has been on the street for over 25 years. He shared his view on development in Jerteh over the years. In general he agreed that despite he is happy with the structural and economical development in the town, the development of moral values among the younger generation does need more attention.

Participants went to bed at 10.00pm as per schedule. However there are some that stayed later than the hour.

Date : 24^th April 2010

Route : Jerteh – Jeli

Participants were up and ready at the Dewan Majlis Daerah Besut as early as after Subuh prayer. Many took safe step to wake up and shower early as the hotel room was only equipped with one bathroom/toilet. Around 6.50 am all participants were already lined up at the Dataran Astaka for the start of the expedition.

At 7.30am, the opening ceremony for Day 1 started. Among guests were Tuan Haji Deraman Che Mat representing Penyelia Penghulu Daerah Besut, and Chief of Traffic Police. In his speech, Tuan Haji Deraman expressed his gratitude to ACT for choosing Jerteh as the starting point of the expedition and wished the contingent for success and safe journey. He also took the chance to give positive remarks on ACT’s culture to start the program with the recital of ‘Basmallah’.

Contingent was released at 7.50am by Tuan Haji Deraman.

A misfortune occurred just after the 8^th kilometer of the journey right after the Jerteh – Machang border. 1 cyclist fell off his bicycle and sustains injury on his right arm. He was later brought to nearby hospital and confirmed unfit to continue the expedition. He admitted that durin the incident he was looking at people on the streetside rather focusing on his ride. None of other cyclist involved or effected from the incident.

The first stop was at Sekolah Rendah Pangkal Meleret, Machang, Kelantan. Contingent were welcomed with the beat of ‘Kompang’ by the students. The school management was very kind to provide refreshment for the contingent. Cyclist took the chance to mingle around with students and others. Mr. Haimi Mustapha, one of the school's old boys stated that the school has been around since the 1950s with around 200 students. During that time the roof was made by ‘Cagu’ leaves. He also added that during the Japanese occupation, the school had a club called ‘Kelab Bangsa Jepun’ where the villagers had to serve food to the Japanese army. Now the school is in much better condition with 541 students. Menwhile, the teachers expressed their happiness having ACT around. They believe it is a good exposure for the students and it is hoped to motivate them to do better in life.

Cyclists then took their time to ride around the village and make connection with the locals. In one of the event, Kelompok 8 joined a few villagers to collect grass for use to feed cows. Though it seemed to be easy, all takers that tried the grass cutting discipline agreed that this job is only for the toughs.

The contingent pursued the journey spending around 2 hours with the students and the villagers. As it approaches Zohor prayer the contingent arrived at Kg. Sungai Nibong Mosque. Afer prayer, participants had porridge for lunch. In a short chat with Mr. Ab. Razak Othman; the Imam of the mosque, Kg. Sungai Nibong is blessed with a very united community of villagers. The villagers are very strong on ‘gotong-royong’ activities and this value is being passed to the young generations by getting them involved actively in the events, such as by giving them leadership responsibilities. This instilled the sense of belonging in them thus enthusiasts them up for the tasks.

The contingent left Kg. Sungai Nibong and headed to Jeli, which was the destination of the day. They arrived at around 3.50pm; welcomed by the beat of ‘Kompang’ and the students of SMK Jeli.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah Jeli , Tuan Haji Abd Kadir and Ustazah Jamaliah Bt Othman representing the Principal of SMK Jeli. In his speech, Tuan Haji Abd Kadir shared his thoughts that in his point of view, he is confident that members of ACT have the quality, and will be the leaders of the future. He was glad to understand ACT’s mission and vision to explore districts in Malaysia to build relationships, in the spirit to develop the rural areas with its local potential. Meanwhile, the Chief of Expedition made an interesting point for the students as he touched the issue of smoking among the teenagers, making them to make their own calculation on monetary loss of smoking. This point received good response from the students as they too joined in making rough mathematical calculation while seeking for rational of the topic.

To continue ACT’s tradition in concern of global warming, 2 trees were planted at the school yard. The trees are Mangosteen and Rambutan.

Participants later adjourned for the day. Male participants stayed at the nearby motelsl while Female participants and Central Committee stayed at the TNB guest house nearby the school. Since the day was very hot and tiring, many cyclists slept early.

Date : 25^th April 2010

Route : Jeli – Tasik Banding

This day is the highlight of this expedition. The challenge today is to ride across Banjaran Titiwangsa to reach Banding Lake, Temengor, Perak. Cyclists gathered at Jeli Mosque as early as 6.33am. The opening ceremony started at 6.55am. Special guest present was Tuan Razali, Penggawa of Jeli Mosque.In his speech he challenged the contingent to proof themselves at the Banjaran Titiwangsa. He also made the contingent to cheer ‘Berjaya’ for three times, creating the winning ambiance for the day.

The contingent departed at 7.14am. After 20 kilometers, right before the ‘real’ climb started, the contingent stopped for refreshment at Kedai Makan Tomyam Air Panas. The contingent spent around 30 minutes there.

The contingent continued their journey at around 9.00am. Here, cyclists started to feel the bite. Regardless the pain they feel, they didn’t forget to enjoy the view of the nature.

After 1 hour the contingent stopped for rest at the Pergau Hydroelectric Station. In a short interview with the Chief of Expedition, he described the beauty of the forest as ‘unexplainable’. He also pointed out that we need to take action in order to preserve this beauty, and instead of only talking, actions need to be taken. One of the ways is by highlighting the beauty of the area to the public, hoping that it will slowly educate them to value the nature, thus avoiding any action that may harm the environment.

At 10.26am the contingent were back on the road, but not for too long as the next stop was just around half an hour later at the R&R Restoran Damai. For note, the word ‘Damai’ stands for ‘Darul Naim Agro Management Services Sdn. Bhd’. Right at the side of the restaurant stood a nursery for plants. Mr. Mat Yunon b Ibrahim whom has just operated the restaurant for the past 1 month was really happy to receive ACT’s visit to his place. He agreed that by doing this kind of expedition would assist to drive outsiders into rural area. This in any way will either directly or indirectly generate the economy for the locals. This is very important for long term sustainability and development.

The contingent was blessed with the cloudy weather throughout the day. Despite the continuous climb, many can still smile as they reach the peak of the Banjaran Titiwangsa. Here at Restoran Amira Titiwangsa the contingent stopped for break and enjoying the marvelous view. Many didn’t waste much time before they start snapping for pictures!

The rest of the journey was very relaxing, but with more risk. The contingent glided down the hill to reach Tasik Banding. The writer himself has never heard of Tasik Banding before was totally thrilled by the beauty of the lake. It is not too bad to say that the view, in a way has brought the contingent to the different world all together. The cleanliness of the area, the freshness of the air, the landscape, alll of them are just beyond the normal imagination of a typical rainforest.

For short refreshment the team stopped at Belum Rainforest Resort. After 10 minutes the contingent continued the journey to Banding Lakeside Inn, the final destination for the day. Here, 5 Rambutan trees were planted to mark around Banding Lakeside Inn. Cyclists were welcomed with small refreshment.

Cyclists were celebrated in a dinner organised at the Baling Lakeside Inn Ballroom. Among present were Mr. Mohd Tahir Ismail, representative of Pegawai Daerah Grik and Mr. Abd Samad, General Manager of Banding Lakeside Inn. One interesting point made by Mr. Mohd Tahir was the importance to preserve the Royal Belum Rainforest Resort as one of the oldest rainforest in the world. In the other note, Chief of Expedition expressed his agreement to the statement made by Mr. Mohd Tahir. He described the rainforest as ‘national asset’ and urge all participants to come strong together to preserve this god given treasure. Mr. Abd Samad was delighted to have ACT in hotel as the first big group accepted by the hotel since its 1-month old opening. He had also presented a voucher valued RM 7600 to ACT as discount for their stay in the hotel. For ACT, this is a form of proof of public’s recognition towards ACT’s efforts in line with its vision and mission.

The dinner ended at 10.00pm, marking the end of the day.

Route : Tasik Banding – Baling

The last day of expedition promised more challenge for the participants. Cyclist started to gather in front of Banding Lake side Inn after the Subuh prayer. The opening ceremony started at 6.55am. Presence was Tuan Mohd Noh bin Mahad, Chief of Police, Gri District. In his speech, he appreciated ACT’s expedition as a platform to build spirit of teamwork, and he would like to see cycling to become a culture among Malaysians, like in the Europe. He pointed out that Royal Malaysian Police will always give full support for this kind of activities, as this is also a good method to bridge the leaders of the country with the people.

The team departed at 7.20am. The whole contingent was surprised by the geographical structure of the route. Right from the beginning of the journey. Continuous climbing made some just felt unable to move on. Luckily with support from others and the sprirt of winning mentality instilled in all ACT members, they move on, together with everybody.

The first stop was at Hentian Sungai Lebey. Here, cyclist took some rest and refreshment.The contingent continued the journey after half hour. The journey continued in a more relaxing mode as it enters villages, education, and commercial areas.

The next stop was Al-Huda Mosque, Kampung Plang. The contingent were welcomed by the primary school students, the presentation of Silat Pulut and Silat Sangka Bunuh. Present at the welcoming ceremony were Mr. Abd Wahab b. Abdullah ,Chief of Kampung Plang, Mr. Phuah, Headmaster, Sekolah Rendah Plang, Mr. Mohd. Abd. Aris b. Mokhtar, Chariman, Majlis Belia Daerah, Mr. Syuib b. Lazim, Imam of Al – Huda Mosque, Mr. Abd. Ghazi Chief of RELA, Mr. Jalil Alwi, Penghulu Mukim Krunai, Mr. Sufian, Chief, Cawangan Plang Utara, and Mr. Yusof b. Sulaiman (Secretary). Mr. Abd Wahab explained in his speech that generally the village has around 2000 villagers with around 300 houses. On behalf of the villager he expressed his gratitude to have ACT to stop by, even for a short while and hope that ACT will come again in the future. Chief of Expedition later in his speech highlighted to cyclists that the purpose of the expedition is not for vacation, but it is a chance to learn. Contingent was later served with mee-hoon and orange drink prepared by the villagers on ‘gotong-royong’ spirit. Cyclists took this chance to mingle with the villagers and build connection.

At Kampung Plang, Bunga Tanjung trees were planted at the mosque’s yard.

As the contingent left the pit stop, it was near noon time. Villagers ‘warned’ all cyclists about one of the hill called ‘Bukit Paku’. Taking note of this, the ride goes on. And yes, the ‘warning’ was valid. Under the hot sun cyclists were challenged with the long and steep hillside of Bukit Paku. For the good of all, Chief of Expedition called for rest. After half hour the journey continued. The ride was smooth glide down the hill until the contingent approaches Bukit Buloh. Unexpectedly, heavy rain pours down, but the ride goes on. Rain stopped after 15 minutes.

At 3.15pm the contingent reached Kafeteria Pengkalan Hulu, Grik. Here the contingent stopped for refreshment for 40 minutes before proceed. Overhere, a group of 25 motorcyclists from Pemuda Cawangan Batu 42, Baling waited for the contingent to escort them all the way to Baling town.

The contingent arrived at Baling town at 4.30pm, made a short trip around the town before entering Dewan Kenanga Tun Abdul Razak, which is the final destination. The contingent was welcomed with the presentation of Silat Gayung Harimau Berantai. The best part of the show was the demonstration by a lady practitioner for self defence for ladies, which is a very important knowledge nowadays.

In the welcoming ceremony, among presence were Tuan. Hj. Ahmad Fisol b. Hj Md Nor, Officer of Baling District, Mr.Saiful Anuar, Assistance District Officer, Mr Hasbullah Assistance District Officer, Tuan Hj Abd Rahman, Representative of ADUN Bayu, Dr. Delima Bt Kalsom Health Officer of Baling District, Mr. Mohd Desa, Engineer of JKR Baling, and Mr. Mohd Robi Bin Abd Wahab.

Tuan Hj. Ahmad Fisol said in his speech that despite that he had to wait for few hours for the contingent to arrive (on paper, arrival was scheduled at 2.30pm), he was very honored to be around and be a part of the program. He whom has full understanding on ACT’s concern on environmental issues, agreed that the tree planting symbollic practiced by ACT will leave a sweet memory for all and that is very important. To celebrate ACT’s contingent, the MP of Baling has sponsored the special local meal of ‘Gulai Batang Pisang’ for all.

Chief of Expedition in his speech said that ACT was formed on the platform of love towards education, and the wants to educate the nation towards the development of the country. In order to do that, each self must be equipped with good physical and spiritual basis. The focus has always been to seek for potential to develop rural and areas, as well as to foster relationship with each and every heart of Malaysians. ACT members are taught to be able to mingle with every level of society, and must crave to learn new things at all time. Lastly he thanked all parties involved throughout the days of expedition from the local authorities, the JKKKs, Royal Malaysian Police from the Traffic Branch, and all the committee members that has worked hard to make the expedition a successful one. He also thanked Allah for HIS blessing that throughout the journey so much new thing has been learned about the society, culture and environment that we all must appreciate and preserve.

Three ‘Tiara Payung’ trees planted at the yard of Dewan Kenanga Tun Abdul Razak and later all participants were treated with ‘Gulai Batang Pisang’. The program ended at around 5.30 pm after group photo was taken.

The first day of expedition. More than 150 cyclists began the journey to challenge mind, body and soul. The opening ceremony was officiated by UiTM Kuala Pilah’s Campus Director Assoc. Prof. Zalauddin Haji Sulaiman the contingent was released at around 7.30am. Prior to that, officers from Royal Malaysian Police(Traffic), Negeri Sembilan branch. Cyclists were reminded to maintain good discipline, remain in formation and uphold safety aspects at all times.

ACT moved a step forward in variety of activities by organizing its very first Ramah Mamah program, in line with celebration of Syawwal. The activity which was held at Kem Herba Sungai Chongkak witnessed a one-day event comprising cycling, BBQ, knowledge sharing, and the must-not-to be missed; the mandi sungai activity.
